Abstract

The main questions we address in this thesis are: How fast can a cavity resonance be switched reversibly? What are limitations to the timescales, in other words, what is the fastest possible cavity switch? How light trapped in a microcavity follow the resonance during the switching? How fast the cavity resonance can be switched repeatedly? How we can increase the resonance frequency shift if the switching is only limited by optical means?
